Rise of the One-Day Biz Trip

Even long-distance travelers avoiding hotel stays

(Newser) – As businesses cut costs, more employees are traveling—even overseas—without staying overnight. “I'm not sure everybody has the stamina to get up at 4 AM for a 6 AM flight and get home at 9," said one traveler—who totaled 100,000 miles last year but only stayed in hotels half of that time. "But as we try to do more with less, that's what's required."

Though most single-day trips involve flights of three hours or less, some are longer—one consultant flew from Connecticut to Asia and back without a hotel stay—and one expert fears the practice “could be harmful to your health," reports USA Today. But it’s not just money driving the trend. “It’s a secure feeling of being home,” said the consultant. “People want to be in their own beds, in their own cities.”

With the rise in telecommunications technology, this type of thing will soon be obsolete. *This message brought to you by your friends at Cisco....

You guys are mocking this, but it's not easy making those one-day business trips, they really take a toll of your mental, and eventually physical, health. Once in a while is doable, but some people have to do 3-4 times a week.. it just sucks. I suppose it's better than losing your job, but still... businesses should find other ways to cut costs...
