It’s OK to hate Oprah. Sure, she overcame a tragic childhood, sure, she tackles taboo topics, and yes, she gives to charity. But Jennifer Simon of Nerve hates her anyway, and here’s why you should, too:

  • Her idea of happiness is expensive. Oprah’s a believer in retail therapy. She’s constantly promoting her "favorite things," then selling them in her Chicago store. “Go for your dreams! Buy an ‘O’ notebook to write them in!”

  • Her show is basically Springer. Oh sure, her show strives to be more empathetic and sophisticated, but “at heart, it’s still a freak show.”
  • She’s an egomaniac. Come on, she started O: The Oprah Magazine, a periodical devoted to her own interests, and has appeared on every cover.
  • She loves pseudoscience. Blame Oprah for popularizing The Secret, which claims that the universe rewards positive thinking. So tragedies only happen to negative thinkers?
  • She brought us Dr. Phil. ‘Nuff said.
