When the box arrived, Melanie Sloan just pulled it inside and left it there. “We have an 11-month-old,” says her husband, Eric Anderson. “Sometimes somebody will send us a present and we don’t know what it is.” It was only hours later when they tried opening the box that something seemed suspicious. Inside were so many layers of packing Sloan feared it was a bomb. Instead, Anderson recalls, "I said, 'Oh, yeah, it's pot'"—$120,000 worth.
Police say drug dealers often send shipments to random homes, grabbing them while the unwitting occupants are at work. After one such delivery in 2008, police raided the home of a local politician and killed his Labrador retrievers, the Washington Post reports. Sloan knew about the incident, so she immediately called 911 to explain their situation. “I’m like, I don’t want them coming through my door with guns drawn, because I love my dog.”
