(Newser) – Americans appear to be in the mood to forgive a variety of national figures laid low by this or that scandal, and Tiger Woods in particular. Some 32% of respondents to a CBS News poll said they would pardon the transgressions of the likes of Woods, Charlie Sheen, and John Edwards. But 22% of respondents reserved their kindness for Woods only, which Mediaite notes is more than 4 times the benevolence toward Edwards. Bernie Madoff’s score? Zero. And 15% couldn’t muster the grace to forgive anyone.

I do forgive Tiger as if I have something to forgive. He violated trust and integrity within the golf community and committed adultry in the worst way against his wife. He neglected to be a good father to his children. His wife, his children and the golf community are the only ones he has done wrong . I wish him well and hope the wronged people in his life will forgive him. Most of all it is my most sincere hope that he proves himself worthy of their forgiveness.

Well, to be fair, Tiger Woods' wife wasn't dying, he doesn't beat his wife, and he hasn't fucked a 13 year old.

Fuck what Americans think. What these people did in their personal lives is no business to the average American; aside from Madoff and those who actually caused us harm. As all of your parents used to say, and as evidenced by this article, I'm sure you don't say to your kids: Mind your own damn P's and Q's.
