Posh Spice may not agree, but new research shows that women are more drawn to the deep baritone of a Barry White than the higher-pitched squeak of a David Beckham. Studies of the Hadza tribe of Tanzania, whose lifestyle is similar to that of early man, reveal that men with deep voices have more children—because they have more success with women, reports the Times of London.
Men with lower voices may have more testosterone, leading to more aggression and greater hunting success, researchers theorize. “We speculate that the associations reported between reproductive success and voice pitch in men are probably mediated by greater access to fecund women,” the researchers conclude in the journal Biology Letters.
