American Accuses North Korea of Sexual Abuse

Park, released Feb. 6, in a mental hospital

(Newser) – The Korean-American missionary who was released Feb. 6 after six weeks’ imprisonment in North Korea has suffered a mental breakdown due sexual abuse while he was in custody. Robert Park, 28, has been in a California mental facility for more than two weeks, his pastor tells Chosun Ilbo, after he exhibited stress-related panic symptoms.

“After being taken to Pyongyang, Robert went through indescribably hideous sexual abuse,” Jon Benson says of Park, who illegally crossed the North Korean border Christmas Eve. “He called the North Korean regime more wicked than the Nazis.”

I don't feel bad for this guy because he willingly invaded North Korea knowing he might die, and luckily all he got was raped and deported. I would take that over being six feet under especially considering how stupid he was to walk in there in the first place.

That was one year ago, but his ordeal is far from over, reports the Washington Post . The Christian missionary says he lost his mental health in the country: He stutters. Prays compulsively. Hasn't gotten a haircut, for fear of being touched. Has tried to commit suicide. Believes North Korean agents will kill him. But still Park, who says he was tortured and sexually abused while imprisoned, chose to leave a psychiatric hospital in Tucson and moved to Seoul, where he speaks about North Korean issues in as many churches as he can.
