Brianna Scurry, not Hope Solo, will be in goal for the U.S. Women's team in today's semifinal World Cup match against Brazil. The decision was announced yesterday by coach Greg Ryan, citing tactical concerns for his last minute switch. To counter the Brazilian style of play "I think Bri is the best goalkeeper in the world," Ryan said.
The move is nonetheless surprising, given that Solo has been in goal for all of the earlier rounds of the tournament, and has been lights out following the opening 2-2 draw versus North Korea. She has been the team's No.1 keeper throughout their 51 match winning streak.
