It was the end of an era last night in San Francisco as super slugger Barry Bonds played his last game in a Giants uniform. The all-time home run king finished the night 0-3, but that didn't stop a sold-out crowd from giving him standing ovations throughout the evening. There were few other opportunities for cheers, as Bonds' last-place team struggled through another lopsided defeat.
Bonds took his position in left field near a black-and-orange "Bonds 25" logo stenciled on the turf. At least one fan captured the evening's bittersweet tone with a dose of realism. "They only signed him this year to put fans in the seats," he told the San Francisco Chronicle. "Sure, he built this place, but there's a time to retire for everyone."
