The head of a Hindu nationalist group has started a campaign to drive white women out of Bollywood. Raj Thackeray says the hundreds of foreigners from Britain and elsewhere who work in Mumbai's film industry are stealing jobs from Indian women. His group raided one production last week demanding to see the work permits of foreign actresses, the Telegraph reports.

Thackeray's powerful Maharashtra Navnirman Sena group—a political party that doubles up as a street gang—is widely feared in Mumbai. The MNS plans to target both backpackers who work as extras and high-profile stars like Kylie Minogue. Producers fear that the campaign will drive up costs and end the trend of Western stars like Sylvester Stallone taking cameo roles in Bollywood movies. " Adds one director, "The reason producers pick white girls is because a lot of them have better figures and are willing to expose them. If you need a bikini shot, not many Indian girls are willing to turn up in a string bikini." (More Bollywood stories.)
