As Cameron Douglas awaits sentencing today on drug dealing charges, dad Michael is joining other family and friends in begging for leniency. Michael’s handwritten letter paints a picture of a child pressured by the two generations of fame that came before him and surrounded by other family members who struggled with substance abuse, including an uncle who died of an overdose in 2004, PopEater reports.
“He is an adult and responsible for his own actions,” Michael writes, but “genes, family, and peer pressure” contributed to his problems. “I have some idea of the pressure of finding your own identity with a famous father. I'm not sure I can comprehend it with two generations to deal with.” Cameron’s charges carry a minimum sentence of 10 years in prison, but his lawyers are arguing for a maximum term of 3 ½ years.
