A car bomb aimed at a convoy  carrying the Polish ambassador to Iraq injured the ambassador and at least 3 private security guards  and killed an Iraqi civilian in Baghdad today. The ambassador, Gen. Edward Pietrzyk, is in stable condition at a US hospital. Poland has supported the US in Iraq since the invasion, and has a presence of about 900 troops in Iraq. The convoy vehicles bore Polish flags.

The Polish embassy in Baghdad was attacked in 2004, though nobody was injured. This bombing comes amidst reports that the number of bodies found in the streets of Baghdad in September was less than half that in July, CNN reports. (More Iraq stories.)
