(Newser) – Roland Deschain may soon be gunslinging his way onto screens big and small. Stephen King is in talks to turn his Dark Tower books into a TV series and a movie trilogy directed by Ron Howard, Deadline New York reports. Both Universal's Imagine Entertainment and Warner Bros.' Weed Road are vying for the project. Whichever lands the deal, the projects will have Howard and the rest of his A Beautiful Mind team attached.

NO NO NO on the TV mini-series. They're always so cheesy. The Shining mini-series, anybody? Rose Red?

A story this epic deserves the big screen treatment, much more than shitty Twilight. And not to be lumped into one movie either. Spread it out one movie per book a la Harry Potter.

Hmm, not too sure how I feel about this. Last time I heard J.J. Abrams was attached to it. Ron Howard is good news though.
I always felt it would work best as a series: each novel as an individual season, except for Wizard and Glass, the bulk of which I feel would make a great feature film.
