Hollywood still makes movies that end with cliffhangers, some of them literal cliff hangers. Writing for Maxim, Eric Alt rounds up some favorites:

  1. The Italian Job (1969). Note this is the original flick. Will the gang survive that tipping bus and get the loot? We get only the classic line, "Hang on a minute, lads. I got a great idea," and that's it. "The end. Brilliant."
  2. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969): We never see the heroes get shot, and who knows? Maybe the Bolivian army has really lousy aim.

  1. Thelma & Louise (1991): As with Butch and Sundance's demise, we don't see them crash into the canyon. "Don't count your dead renegade housewives until they land."
  2. The Thing (1982): Alien halted and story over, right? Nope, two survivors "have to face a long, long winter of looking at each other sideways, wondering which one will suddenly spout tentacles. Night, night!"
  3. Batman Begins (2005): Our hero simply says, "I'll look into it" and leaps off the rooftop. And leaves us waiting for the Joker matchup.
