Blame Naomi Campbell's Rage on Syrup Diet

You'd be angry too, if you ate like she did

(Newser) – Naomi Campbell’s rage can be explained by her “abandonment issues,” she told Oprah Winfrey recently. Or maybe, just maybe, it’s because she doesn’t eat. The supermodel frequently goes on a "maple syrup diet" that “isn't so much a diet as self-flagellation minus the scourge,” writes Emily Hill in the Guardian. “It involves drinking nothing but said syrup mixed with cayenne pepper, lemon juice, and water,” and it would make you want to throw a cell phone at somebody, too.

“By the sounds of things she's so goddamned hungry all the time she'd have to be a saint to keep her composure,” Hill continues. In addition to this master cleanse-like regimen, let us not forget Beyoncé’s laxative tea or Jennifer Aniston’s baby food. “The awful thing about these diets is the joylessness of them. The sheer, sapping unhappiness they must involve,” she writes. “Campbell needs to put the syrup away and embrace the bread basket.”

An empty tummy could make the best of us kick a pigeon or shoulderbarge a pensioner. - Emily Hill

If only she had stood up at her trial and confessed that her boyfriend commands her to forgo carbs, any lady who's got through to lunch on the Atkins' diet would have let her off with a voucher to Pizza Hut.

First of all, considering that she says she does this 3 times a year, I doubt it's an excuse for her behavior in general. Unless she's only a self-absorbed, spoiled, entitled, violent woman 3 times a year, that excuse doesn't pass.

Second, the fact that people still do these fasts/cleanses in a world of such easily accessible information is incredible. The only people who don't know the truth about "cleanses" are those who rely on fashion magazines or ads that are designed to "sell you" on the idea that you need it ('cause they want your money, folks). Who still doesn't know that every *reputable* physician that's been asked about this has said that you're being "sold" on b.s.?

The syrup is for the high sugar content (because that's what keeps your body from starving without calories) and the capsaicin in the cayenne is to irritate your bowels so you get diarrhea. THAT'S how it works. Know what they say will accomplish the same thing your "master cleanses" do? Go vegetarian for a few days. That's it. That's how ridiculous this is.

Seems to lack fiber too. Could cause the kind of problems that killed Elvis.
