(Newser) – Attempted attacks against America have reached an all-time high, according to the Department of Homeland Security. "The number and pace of attempted attacks against the United States over the past nine months have surpassed the number of attempts during any other previous one-year period," reads the unclassified DHS memo. The document, dated May 21, predicts an "increased frequency" of assaults, reports CNN.

The memo, which makes specific mention of subway plotter Najibullah Zazi and would-be Times Square bomber Faisal Shahzad, says trends indicate terror are interested in "more achievable attacks against easily accessible targets," and adds that US officials "lack insights in specific details, timing, and intended targets."

This is going to sound like a conspiracy theory but bare with me. Let us assume that terrorists like Al-Qaeda know a little something about American politics. Let us also assume that republicans are seen by the American people to be more tough on terrorism than Democrats. Finally let us assume that what opponents have dubbed Obama's political correctness campaign with regard to terrorism is actually working.

Would it not be conceivable that terrorists are TRYING to attack the United States more because they are afraid of Obama and they know if they get enough successful attacks they will essentially chase him out of office by scaring the American public away from practices such as reading terrorist suspects their Miranda rights, not torturing terrorist suspects, condemning Islam along with Islamic extremism, perusing second, third, and even fourth agendas while conducting war to a point where the initial point of conducting that war is lost etc.

I got a little carried away towards the end but it does not take a genius to see that we made a lot of mistakes in Afghanistan and Iraq and with our treatment of moderate Muslims. Maybe terrorists want us to go back to that.
