Mixed martial arts fighter Jarrod Wyatt has been arraigned on first degree murder and torture charges after allegedly ripping his training partner's heart out of his chest while he was still alive and ripping off much of his face. Wyatt, 26, told police that he had recently ingested hallucinogenic mushrooms, and believed his friend, 21-year-old Taylor Powell, had been possessed by the devil.

Another friend says he found Wyatt standing naked over Powell's mutilated corpse in his California flat, with various body parts, including an eyeball, strewn about. Wyatt says he burned the heart and other organs, because he feared the devil was still within Powell. Wyatt has pleaded not guilty, with his lawyer arguing that the drugs caused him to lose control of his actions. “My client was trying to silence the devil,” he tells the Telegraph.
