Elizabeth Edwards Plots to Keep 'Stepmom Rielle' From Her Kids

She worries lover will take over after her death

(Newser) – Elizabeth Edwards is doing everything in her power now to keep her estranged husband's mistress from becoming her children' stepmom, friends reports. Edwards hopes her eldest daughter will become the guardian of her younger children if she succumbs to her late-stage breast cancer, reports the New York Daily News. "She doesn't want Rielle Hunter anywhere near them," says a source. Edward's health has recently "taken a turn for the worse," according to a pal.

She's investigating the legal option of having her 28-year-old daughter, Cate, raise Jack, 10, and Emma, 12, in the event of her death. Cate's a Harvard law grad who's clerking in a federal court in Washington, owns a townhouse and is in a long-term relationship, friends report. John Edwards and Hunter have a 2-year-old daughter, Quinn, but Elizabeth's sister is skeptical the two lovers will ever marry.

while Iwhile I can well understand the hurt that Elizabeth feels , I hope she can not waste what life she has left wasting it o n hate. I have shared so much of the same things she ia going thru, cheating husband and father, breast cancer and the terrible hate you develop after being betrayed, it only hurts you and is a waste of your tme. the children are not stupid and will develop their own opinions in time.I wish elizabeth all the best and have certainly been on her team thru this whole mess.

Many spurned wives try to use the children as a weapon. Even if the older daughter becomes guardian I doubt that would keep John from visitation and whatzhername from being the stepmom if they marry or the de facto stepmom is they don't. I remember hating my "step-wife" with a passion 33 years ago, but both she and my ex seem like decent people to me now. It's too bad Elizabeth probably won't live long enough to let that one go. It's ridiculous to fill oneself with hate for someone who, whatever else he may be, clearly isn't right for one.

Man poor Elizabeth is even trying to dictate from the grave and it's just not going 2 happen! Don't get me wrong I feel sorry 4 this woman, my Mom died from breast cancer and it;s pure hell on a woman's body and mind.
