The news that House star Hugh Laurie is recording a blues album prompted Time to reminisce over 10 other unlikely actors who turned to singing…often with hilarious results:

  • David Hasselhoff: Shockingly, he managed to top the German charts even though he recorded songs like the super-creepy “Jump in My Car.”
  • Billy Bob Thornton: He once took down a radio interviewer who mentioned his acting career while they were supposed to be discussing his musical career with his band, the Boxmasters.

  • Jada Pinkett Smith: Yes, Will Smith’s wife was once in a heavy metal band, Wicked Wisdom, that performed at Ozzfest…and opened for Britney Spears.
  • Eddie Murphy: His 1985 “Party All the Time” made it to No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100, but it’s since been named one of the worst songs of all time.
  • Steven Seagal: The action star has released two albums, and he actually named one of his songs “Talk To My Ass.”
  • Leonard Nimoy: He released several LPs in the 1960s, but his songs—like “Ballad of Bilbo Baggins”—were tongue-in-cheek.
