Activists Rally Behind Alleged WikiLeaker

Dueling protests seen outside Marine Corps base

(Newser) – Activists protested this weekend outside the Virginia Marine Corps base where Bradley Manning is being held, calling for the alleged source of WikiLeaks' secret document trove to be released. "We are here to say that if he, indeed, was the whistle-blower, then we are proud of him," the founder of Code Pink tells CNN. "In the United States that I know and love, transparency is a positive thing."

But about 300 yards away, a smaller handful of counter-protesters held up a sign showing Manning with bloody hands. "He has already put his fellow soldiers at risk," said one pro-military blogger. While I don't believe like that idiot Republican that he should be executed. I believe that he should be held accountable for what he did. He should definitely be court martialed, he was a soldier and took an oath to protect our country. He didn't. The big question: who helped him. I doubt this guy had access to all this info himself, so who was BEHIND this kid getting this info out?

He is a Traitor, if this info was to be "turned over" to a third party it should have been turned over to Congress not a operative for an unfriendly government as Wikileaks apparently is. The Co Founder of Wikileaks (an American) was forced out when he raised questions over 5 million dollars that was "donated" by Governments who are unfriendly to the USA, he raised questions and was tossed out of what he helped create. In simple terms Wikileaks is acting in the behest of a foreign power plain and simple and that is a fact. This guy is a spy and a traitor and should get the same treatment as all spies and traitors get

(NEWSER) - The UN's torture chief has officially accused the US government of cruel and inhumane treatment of suspected WikiLeaks source Bradley Manning, the Guardian reports. The agency's special rapporteur on torture, Juan Mendez, investigated Manning's treatment for 14 months and found that Manning's 11-month solitary confinement was "at a minimum cruel, inhuman, and degrading," but may have been torture "if the effects in regards to pain and suffering inflicted on Manning were more severe." (NEWSER) - Suspected WikiLeaker Army Private Bradley Manning has been nominated for this year's Nobel Peace Prize. He joins a list of 231 nominees—people like Russian human rights activist Svetlana Gannushkina. Bill Clinton, Bill Gates, and former German Chancellor Helmut Kohl are also believed to be on the list. The nomination of Manning, who has been charged with the largest leak of classified information in US history, is no indication of his chances of winning. (AP) - An Army private chose not to enter a plea today to charges he made the biggest leak of classified information in US history. Bradley Manning also put off a choice of whether to be tried by a military jury or a judge alone. He was arraigned before Col. Denise Lind at Fort Meade near Baltimore. A trial date has not been set. Army Officer: Court-Martial Bradley Manning

He recommends trial on all counts in WikiLeaks case

(AP) - An Army officer recommended a general court-martial today for alleged Wiki-Leaker Bradley Manning. The recommendation to try Manning on all 22 counts, including aiding the enemy, now goes up the chain of command. Lt. Col. Paul Almanza sent his report to Col. Carl Coffman, who will make a recommendation to Military District of Washington commander Maj. Gen. Michael Linnington, whose decision is final. Court-martial opinion due next month

(NEWSER) - Bradley Manning's court hearing ended today almost a week after it began . Prosecutors revealed an alleged al-Qaeda propaganda video that featured militants describing how they used leaked documents to their advantage. Manning, prosecutors said, "aided in the publication of those files, knowing that our enemies would use those files." Defenders called him a naive and emotionally troubled young man who didn't get the support he needed from the military, the New York Times reports. More»
