(Newser) – Michael Enright filmed a lot of videos, none of which gave the slightest hint that he might be the kind of person accused of brutally attacking a cab driver with a knife. But his YouTube shorts (see them in the gallery) do have an interesting through-line—they all deal with veterans, and most deal with PTSD. Now, some friends and associates are wondering if he had PTSD himself, the Huffington Post reports, possibly springing from his time in Afghanistan.

The head of the non-profit Enright volunteered for tells the New York Times that Enright had an “intense experience” overseas. “He wasn’t, as I understand it, directly involved in any combat, but he was close enough.” That experience appears to have changed his attitude toward Muslims. When he was arrested, he was carrying a journal filled with “pretty strong anti-Muslim comments,” police tell the New York Daily News. He wrote that Muslims were “killers, ungrateful for the help they were being offered, filthy murderers without a conscience.”
