Users can order Domino's pizza from their TVs

TiVo customers can now order Domino's pizza right on their TVs, the Wall Street Journal reports, in a promotion that pops up when a customer forwards through a Domino's commercial. The promotion has two goals: Beefing up the pizza chain's bottom line—shares are down 71% in the past year—and taking advantage of DVR technology, which is popular with consumers but not advertisers. (Newser) - London restaurant chain Eco has animal-rights activists hopping mad over its newest pizza, the Sun reports. Called “The Hopper,” the pie contains 8 frogs legs with capers and anchovies. (Newser) - Papa John's passed the $1-billion mark in online pizza orders yesterday, trumpeting growth in Internet sales averaging 50% per year since it debuted the service in 2001. Domino’s and Pizza Hut join the third-place pizza-delivery chain in reporting that the Internet is giving the business new life and increasing their slice of the casual dining pie, reports the AP. (Newser) - The domain name pizza.com sold at auction yesterday for $2.6 million, netting a tidy little profit for a Baltimore man who bought 14 years ago for $20, the Baltimore Sun reports. Seller Chris Clark held onto the name over the years, making sure to keep up with the $20 annual registration fees. Then he read that vodka.com recently sold for $3 million, and "I thought, 'Why don't I just try to see what the level of interest is?'" he said. More »
