Hollywood is looking backward with an eye on the future, reports the Los Angeles Times . Plans to launch remakes of 12 sci-fi flicks from the last millennium are already under way: When Worlds Collide , an update of the apocalyptic 1951 film, will hit theaters next year with Steven Spielberg signed onto produce and Mummy director Stephen Sommers in the director's seat. The Terminator returns next summer, starring Christian Bale, with a war between humans and the armies of Skynet. But the real question is, will the California governor "be back" as promised?

A man brandishing two Samurai swords was shot dead by a guard inside a Hollywood Scientology church yesterday. A security tape revealed that the guard used his automatic weapon to protect himself and two colleagues, police concluded. The sword man had a history with the church, but was not a member at the time of his death, reports the Los Angeles Times. The Church of Scientology's Celebrity Centre caters to politicians, artists and actors, including long-time devotee Tom Cruise.

Angelina Jolie tells the BBC she is ready to “fade away” from the celebrity scene and gradually give up acting to focus on her six kids. The actress hasn't worked in a year, and apart from a short stint in February, she plans to wait at least another year before taking on a big project. "So maybe it will be once a year and then maybe it will be once every three years, and then just naturally—I like being home a lot these days."
