(Newser) - In NFL action, it was an exciting day for the AFC East’s No. 1 and 2, the New York Jets and the New England Patriots, the AP reports: Brett Favre threw two TDs and the Jets took down the Tennessee Titans 34-13, breaking their 13-game winning streak. The Jets have won five straight for the first time in more than 4 years. The New York Giants held off the late-surging Arizona Cardinals for a 37-29 victory, improving to 10-1. Jets beat Rams 47-3 in record-setting rout

(Newser) - The Tennessee Titans secured a stunning 9-0 record today and the Indianapolis Colts stole a much-needed win in NFL action: The Titans overcame a franchise-low 20-yard rushing game to beat the Chicago Bears 21-14 and stay undefeated, the AP reports. Peyton Manning tossed three TD passes in a 24-20 comeback victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers — the last with 3:04 to go, after Ben Roethlisberger's second interception, USA Today reports. More »

(Newser) - Matt Millen’s tenure as the Detroit Lions’ president and GM is over, Fox Sports reports. His removal came after an executive meeting last night, and Millen reportedly packed up his office this morning. Millen, 50, was among the most reviled executives in sports—with even the son of owner William Clay Ford saying recently he would fire Millen if it were his decision. More »

(Newser) - West Point graduate Caleb Campbell—drafted in April by the Detroit Lions—has been ordered to put his pro football career on hold and report for military duty, the Detroit News reports. The Army abruptly changed its policy and told Campbell—a day before he was to report to training camp—that he must  complete two years of active duty before playing ball. More »

Army grad, drafted by Detroit, skips active duty if he makes team

(Newser) - If linebacker Caleb Campbell hadn't been picked up by the Detroit Lions in the seventh round of the NFL draft Sunday, he'd  be suiting up for the battlefield, not the gridiron. Assuming he makes the team, Campbell, who graduates from the U.S. Military Academy  May 31, will be allowed to replace five years' service by working as a recruiter and a reserve while playing, the Detroit Free Press reports. Source says Dallas is in talks with Titans

(Newser) - Troubled cornerback Adam "Pacman" Jones may be set to become a Dallas Cowboy, a source tells the Dallas Morning News . The suspended Titans player has expressed a desire to play for the Cowboys, and his agent Manny Arora notes that "If Tennessee chooses not to have him on their roster next year, it's in their best interest to trade him."
