If you want to (and can) go back that far, live-type was standard on several of the early pre-WWW chat networks and bbs-chat systems, back in the mid-80's (in the 'acoustic coupler' days.)

True, Dr_Z. Teddy was classy. I shouldn't have left him out... but I think most of today's GOP would. All those Natural Resources he put off limits... and while the "big stick" would certainly have been acceptable, I think the "walk softly" part would have gotten him strung up at the national conventions.

On Fox Ain't News, It's 'the Opposition Party'
Fox's local affiliates aren't so bad - I know field reporters and tech people at several of them. The network is a different story - and I know several of them, too. Stood next to one of their cameramen while he was shooting a reporter's standup during a protest last year. When it was over, I pointed out to the reporter that what he'd reported had no connection at all with the events that transpired. His response: "Yeah, you know that, I know that, but this is what network wants, and I got bills to pay, y'know?"

"Stay"? They haven't BEEN classy since maybe the Eisenhower administration, and that was a veneer to hide the McCarthyist heart of them. Realistically, Lincoln was the last classy Republican, and today's party would drum HIM out if they didn't need the PR cover.
