(Newser) – The stars of a new reality TV program about a fundamentalist Mormon and his four wives are being investigated for felony bigamy. Utah advertising salesman Kody Brown is legally married to only one woman, but the adults talk openly about the four wives, 13 children, and 3 stepchildren that make up their family on TLC's Sister Wives. Officials say the probe was prompted by publicity surrounding the new "docu-series" in which the family discusses jealousies, Kody's courting a new wife (who becomes the fourth one) and maintaining "musical" marriage beds.

Evidence will be forwarded to the Utah County district attorney, who will decide whether or not to prosecute, reports People. Bigamy is rarely prosecuted in Utah, a heavily Mormon state. The Browns remain defiant in the face of the law, and first wife Meri said the family decided to go ahead with the program despite the legal risks. "We're not living this lifestyle out of disrespect for the law in any way. We're law-abiding citizens. We're doing this just out of our faith," third wife Christine told KSL TV. Click here for more.
