How evil is al-Qaeda in Iraq? So evil that they once tried to blow up a plane using bombs hidden inside of living dogs. The plot failed only because the terrorists had done such a poor job stitching up the dogs that they died before their kennels could be loaded onto the plane, the New York Post reports. Soldiers loading the plane noticed, and quickly found the surgically-implanted bombs.

The attempt occurred two years ago, but was first reported today by a Paris newspaper. The terrorists were banking on the fact that stray dogs are commonly flown out of Iraq, either by animal rescue groups, or soldiers who’ve adopted them. US intelligence officials quickly got the word out about the attack, sending necropsy photos of the dogs to aviation security officials around the world. (More al-Qaeda in Iraq stories.)
