The death of anorexic French actress Isabelle Caro has her many supporters lamenting the 15-year struggle that took her life at age 28. Highlights from an overview at AOL News:
- At her worst moments—she got down to less than 60 pounds at times—Caro ate two squares of chocolate and a few cornflakes per day.
- A friend says the infamous ad campaign of 2007, in which Caro posed naked on billboards to warn against anorexia, didn't help her deal with her own illness. "I think she was trapped in a vicious cycle. Those pictures made her famous and the center of attention and in some ways that may have been hard to give up."
- Caro herself traced her trouble back to her depressed mother, who didn't want her to gain weight or grow taller. "I wanted to have the body of a child forever, to make my mother happy," Caro once said.
- Says another friend: "She didn't worry about what people thought about how she looked in the pictures. She was so sick, very weak, losing her teeth and hair. She wanted to send a strong message out about anorexia."
- Caro actually died in November, after lapsing into a coma following a trip to Japan.
