(Newser) – Lots of celebrities do philanthropy, but George Clooney's actually suffering in the line of do-goodery—the actor contracted malaria while on a recent trip to Sudan, People reports. However, he's fully cured after a 10-day convalescence, said a spokesman. Clooney was in Sudan ahead of its vote on southern independence.

"This was his second bout with it," said the spokesman. "This illustrates how with proper medication, the most lethal condition in Africa, can be reduced to a bad 10 days instead of a death sentence." Clooney will be on Piers Morgan's CNN show tomorrow in a pre-taped interview.

I can guarantee it was an American doctor that treated him not a Sudan doctor! Think twice next time you Libs cry we have such a bad health care system! I would not put it past him that the doctor was actually flown in from America! Of course this article wouldn't want you to believe that we have the best health care system in the world that would make America look too good!

It'd be a shame to lose such a handsome man. He's more than twice my age, but if given the chance...

I wish my tax dollars were going to saving lives in Africa (and elsewhere) instead of taking lives in Iraq and Afghanistan.
