(AP) – Police have brought charges against a homeless man in Maine who helped himself to an outdoor electrical outlet to charge a pair of cell phones. A Bangor cop checking downtown businesses discovered 23-year-old Shaun Fawster charging his cell phones in an outlet hidden behind some flowers. Fawster was charged last weekend with theft of services, as well as carrying a concealed weapon after the officer found a folding knife tucked underneath his shirt. The Bangor Daily News says Fawster was later released from jail. It's unknown if he has an attorney.

Harassment of the homeless is an act of bullying.  A cell phone and knife are mandatory for such a person.  When we start to back people against a wall like this, we are just asking them to become criminals--what do they have to lose? And remember that a lot of the homeless are mentally ill, addicted etc...  If you can't manage a little compassion, at least think of yourselves and the civil disorder you are inciting.

It's such a relief to know the police are protecting us from all these dangerous criminals, like this guy and the lady with the video camera!

Stealing a nickel's worth of electricity? Really? Why don't you just run the guy out of town on a rail?
