No Drugs in Amy's System at Death: Family

Alcohol was present, but cause of death still unclear

(Newser) – There was alcohol in Amy Winehouse’s system when she died, but toxicology tests turned up no illegal substances, her family says. No word yet whether the alcohol played a role in her death, and it's still not clear what killed her, the AP reports. In other Winehouse news, dad Mitch had to return donations to fans who wanted to contribute to the posthumous Amy Winehouse Foundation. A “dick head ... stole our foundation name" before Mitch registered it, he tweeted over the weekend. The Guardian notes that he decided to return the donations since, as he tweeted, “we haven’t got bank ac in that name.” (His latest tweet, however, indicates that he was able to get the name back.)

(NEWSER) - Perhaps the weirdest news to come out since Amy Winehouse's death so far: The Mirror reports that the singer was in the process of adopting a 10-year-old girl from St. Lucia when she died. Making the news even weirder? Dannika Augustine already has a mother and grandmother, but apparently Winehouse wanted to save the girl from poverty and hunger. “Amy was already my mother. I would call her mum and she would call me her daughter," Augustine says. "She took care of me and we had fun together. ... I was looking forward to living with her here or in London." Family sources tell the Sun they believe she cut herself off from alcohol too quickly, giving her body a fatal "shock."
