Police Say They Nabbed LulzSec's Kayla

It turns out she's actually two men, not a teen girl

(Newser) – British police think they’ve taken down the senior LulzSec/Anonymous hacker known as “Kayla”—and if they’re right, she’s actually a pair of men in their 20s, not the 16-year-old girl she’s always claimed to be. Police arrested two men yesterday, aged 20 and 24 respectively, accusing them of conspiring to commit computer misuse under the Kayla moniker, the Telegraph reports, noting that Kayla’s Twitter feed has been inactive since yesterday.

According to this March Forbes profile, Kayla was responsible for revealing that the now-former-CEO of tech security company HBGary had proposed a campaign of intimidation against WikiLeaks donors. In the profile, Kayla plays the role of a teen girl—though she won’t speak to the writer on the phone to confirm her age. Police arrested two other alleged hackers yesterday as well, according to the BBC. The four all came from different parts of the country, and all are in their 20s.

Hackers use misinformation and proxies to throw off authorities from their true identities.

LulzSec and Anonymous aren't the same group. Also I love the shock that a 16 year old girl on the internet turned out to be two men
