(Newser) – Dmitry Medvedev seems amused by Mitt Romney's recent declaration that Russia was the US' “No. 1 geopolitical foe.” “It is very reminiscent of Hollywood,” the Russian president said in South Korea today, according to CNN. He advised the GOP candidates “to listen to reason when they formulate their positions. Reason never harmed a presidential candidate. My other advice is to check their watches from time to time: It is 2012, not the mid-1970s.”

Romney fired back, with a spokesman calling Medvedev's comments proof that "the Kremlin would prefer to continue doing business with the current incumbent of the White House." Romney later clarified that Iran was more dangerous, but that thanks to its Security Council position, “Russia is the geopolitical foe.” Retired Gen. Wesley Clark, a Democrat, dismissed Romney's comments in a statement as a "rehash of Cold War fears."
