(Newser) – When a 14-year-old girl in Georgia discovered a phony—and degrading—Facebook page created in her name, she went to her school, the police, and even Facebook itself without much luck. The page stayed up, and its creators went unpunished. As a result, Alex Boston is now suing two classmates for libel, reports AP, which thinks the suit could trigger similar ones around the country.

Alex and her parents are pushing for Georgia to strengthen its cyberbullying laws, and the lawsuit seeks a jury trial to generate attention, along with unspecified damages. The offending page came down about the time the lawsuit got filed last week. "At first blush, you wouldn't think it's a big deal," says her attorney. "Once you actually see the stuff that's on there, it's shocking." (Among other things, it claimed she spoke a made-up language called "Retardish" and was set up to look like Alex had posted a racist video.)

RE: " Good. Start suing all bullies and see how long it lasts, with proof/evidence of course." The challenge with the evidence and proof is that it is hard to capture at times and once under pressure, cyber bullies often remove it. Check out CanProve www.canprove.com where you can easily capture evidence of cyber bullying and report it as you find necessary. Even if the offender removes the original post, you still will have a proof that can't be tampered with.

Us laws are like unbelievable If I don't like somebody,I can just sue them and make 1 million dollars free! It shouldn't be that easy to just sue people, people use this to their advantage LOL,I'd laugh if she wins! Come on,the most she deserves would be 1000$ and the page taken down immediately, with a similar page for the 2 boys being put up!

everyone that agrees with sueing makes me sick yes he children should be punished but i mean seriously all this leads to is a big circle of sueing and counter sueing and greed all of the country and not just on this but every issue like it. all you people need to just simply grow up. shrug it off and grow some self esteem seriously people should handle their own problems. we have turned into a country of whinning children why do you think we have fallen so far in the world on terms of respect and dignity. we only hold any purpose in the global community becasue we are attached to the global economy and if china buys us out then we are only holding on buy or military and that wont last forever so seriously grow up
