(Newser) – The gas mask-wearing suspect arrested in connection with the hellish Aurora, Colorado, movie theater shooting is 24-year-old local resident James Holmes, ABC News reports. The Denver Post reports that police have thus far recovered a gas mask, rifle, handgun, and at least one other weapon; they also evacuated an apartment building tied to Holmes, then began searching it. KDVR reports that the suspect apparently told police the apartment contained explosives.

Officers found the suspect near a car behind the theater, reports the AP. A rep for the city's police force said investigators don't believe anyone else was involved, and they don't believe Holmes had terrorist ties. Police have not indicated if there was a motive.

My heart is broken as I think of the families and friends of the victims of this senseless tragedy. My deepest condolences to them. Thanks for the heads up on the Evertalk memorial page Christina. I will make sure to visit it.

Stuff is starting to come out about the killer.  Obviously, something popped in his head.  He is intelligent, educated, and apparently had a pretty normal childhood.  He already has a college degree and had only recently dropped out of med school.  Weird.

Not to completely abandon our constituion and laws, but assuming there is no question of the perpretator...   1)  Charge him today   2)  Get the trail going in early August   3)  Complete the trial in August   4)  If he is found incontrovertibly guilty, then...          4a)  Conventionally, he will be put away for life (at taxpayers' expense)          4b)  Conceivably, he could be released to victims' parents (1 hour with no limits on what they do to him)          4c)  Pragmatically, he and others like him, should go to a fortified farm to self-subsist... nothing in, nothing out... ever
