(Newser) – A 13-year-old girl who attended the deadly screening of The Dark Knight Rises is being hailed for her attempts to save 6-year old Veronica Moser-Sullivan, reports CBS News. Kaylan, whose mother didn't want her last name used, went to the movies with four friends, including Veronica and her mom. Three of them were shot in the rampage by suspected shooter James Holmes. Rather than running away, however, Kaylan gave Veronica CPR until the police arrived. "I'm still in shock. I don't think that it's hit me yet what I've been through," says Kaylan, who wasn't harmed in the attack.

Does CPR even work for someone who got shot?

Altruism ... possibly a genetic characteristic in humans. We often reflexively care for others.  It is beneficial to the species. ... and this young lady is a hero.

She was harmed, just not with a bullet. This experience will be a scar for many years. Can you just try to imagine, at age 13, living through that scene and having a 6 year old die in your arms? I pray for all those traumatized.
