Occupy Wall Street's Next Plan: S17

They'll surround stock exchange, maybe make citizens' arrests

(Newser) – The Occupy Wall Street movement has been locked in a slow death spiral this year, but organizers think they can revive it with a massive protest to mark its first anniversary on Sept. 17. The "S17" event will see protesters block traffic in the financial district, encircle the New York Stock Exchange, and possibly try to put some bankers under citizens' arrest, organizers tell Bloomberg. Many protesters say they're going to bring handcuffs for the purpose. "We are here to bring you to justice," one says.

Some protesters will attempt to hold intersections in the district, while others will circulate between them in a bid to avoid police. They'll also distribute food and free medical care. "We are just going to cause chaos, period," says one organizer. Occupy's New York City General Assembly broke up in April, and there haven't been any major organized protests since May 1. Organizers are hoping the many financial scandals that have broken since, like the Libor mess, will drive renewed interest.

Nice! Go get 'em Occupy! And remember, all truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident. So keep on going, there's much more left to be done!
