(Newser) – Chris Kyle, the man who detailed his 160-some kills during a decade as a Navy SEAL in the book American Sniper, has been killed at a Texas gun range, reports Reuters. Another man, Chad Littlefield, was also shot dead, and the AP reports that authorities have charged a suspect, Eddie Ray Routh, with two counts of capital murder. CNN reports that Routh was a fellow veteran who went shooting with Kyle and Littlefield yesterday with no one else around; the victims' bodies were discovered about two hours later, a sheriff said. "It's staggering to think that after all Chris has been through, that this is how he meets his end, because there are so many ways he could have been killed" during his military service, says Kyle's American Sniper co-author.

"The first time, you're not even sure you can do it," Kyle said in a 2012 interview on how he went about focusing on a target. "But I'm not over there looking at these people as people. I'm not wondering if he has a family. I'm just trying to keep my guys safe. Every time I kill someone, he can't plant an IED. You don't think twice about it." Kyle has a forthcoming book, American Gun—A History of the US in Ten Firearms .

I dont want to talk bad about the dead, but it is important that I tell you about this. Most don't /didn't know that many snipers "bait". Just like the illegal hunting. Most snipers also compete with others for a high score too and the ones that "bait" obviously will have a higher score than the ones that don't. Baiting is exactly what it sounds like. A sniper will throw a piece of det cord or something like that next to a road or where ever he can find a hide with a good shot at ya. Then when a farmer, goat herder, insurgent , butcher , baker, or candlestick maker, simply pick it up, their head explodes before they even hear the snipers gun. He than shows a dead Iraqi holding det cord to his superiors and boasts got another insurgent before he could make an IED It is dirty as f'n hell. I have a strong feelings about this dead sniper but I wont go there. I do want to talk about the shooter. If he goes to open court he's gonna tell stories. Horrible stories about US snipers.Probably the very reason for his PTSD! The US military will not let these stories out. They CAN'T let these stories out. They already have way too much INNOCENT Iraqi blood on their hands. I predict Routh will "commit suicide" or a "crazed inmate" will kill him because of his love for America and all her freedoms wink wink ; ) ; ) Watch.

Good riddance. Kyle served no purpose in life but to further the goals of a rich corporate elite that does not give a flying fork about America or the Constitution. And now he is burning in Hell.

How did this story become this thread? Is this how sad and sick America has become? None of the soldiers in this story started the War in Iraq. They did their duty. They deserve your respect and their families deserve your respect. Have we forgot how horribly the Vietnam soldiers were treated? Hate the war, hate the government, hate the politics. Respect those who were in harms way.
