A security guard on the lookout for shoplifters at a Manhattan Victoria's Secret ended up making the most gruesome of finds yesterday afternoon: what appeared to be a fetus in a plastic bag, police say. The New York Daily News reports that the guard spotted two 17-year-old girls swiping underwear and called police; a strong odor was observed, and the remains were found. Tiona Rodriguez reportedly told police she had had a miscarriage the previous day, but didn't know what to do with the remains; she was hospitalized.

It wasn't clear whether the fetus was alive or dead when delivered. One source tells the Daily News Rodriguez was 6.5 months along, but another describes her as "nearly full-term." The medical examiner's office is performing an autopsy on the apparent human remains, reports the AP, and the girls have been charged with petit larceny and criminal possession of stolen property. Police are searching both their homes. The Daily News adds that Rodriguez made this Facebook post on Wednesday: "These Cramps, SON." (More strange stuff stories.)
