Huet, Habs shut out Capitals, Blues blow away Leafs

(Newser) – Erik Christensen’s goal and assist helped the short-handed Pittsburgh Penguins defeat the New Jersey Devils 4-2. Pittsburgh is missing Sidney Crosby, who is nursing a sprained ankle, Colby Armstrong (flu) and Tyler Kennedy (mononucleosis). Ryan Conklin had a pair of goals and Ty Conklin had 23 saves. Conklin’s record is now 11-2-2 since joining the team, reports the Associated Press. Elsewhere in the NHL:

  • Cristobal Huet earned his second shutout of the season by stopping 35 Washington shots, leading Montreal to a 4-0 victory. Mark Streit had a goal and an assist for the Canadiens.
  • The St. Louis Blues ended a seven-game winless streak by defeating the Maple Leafs 3-2 in Toronto. Keith Tkachuck scored on St. Louis’ first two shots of the game.
