So how does a president unwind on a Presidents' Day weekend? Binging on his favorite TV shows, of course. First came a report from Michael D. Shear of the New York Times that President Obama made a personal request of HBO chief Richard Plepler to send him DVDs of True Detective (a new series with Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson) and Game of Thrones. He even summoned an aide to make sure that Plepler knew how to get the DVDs into his hands before Obama left for a three-day trip to Rancho Mirage, Calif.

Then came an official tweet from the president's office ahead of the new House of Cards season on Netflix. ""Tomorrow: @HouseOfCards. No spoilers, please." The AP caught up with star Kate Mara, who called the tweet "one of the coolest things that's happened to me." Yes, the president favors dark dramas, notes Shear. (For those who have watched the first episode of season two, James Poniewozik of Time would like to discuss. But don't click if you haven't watched.)
