(Newser) – The United States shut down its embassy in Libya today and evacuated its diplomats to neighboring Tunisia under military escort amid a significant deterioration in security in Tripoli, the State Department said. Officials blamed intensified fighting between rival militias. The withdrawal underscored the Obama administration's concern about the heightened risk to American diplomats abroad, particularly in Libya where memories of the deadly 2012 attack on the US mission in the eastern city of Benghazi are still vivid.

The State Department also issued a travel warning urging Americans not to go to the country and recommending that those already there leave immediately. "The Libyan government has not been able to adequately build its military and police forces and improve security," it said. "Many military-grade weapons remain in the hands of private individuals, including antiaircraft weapons that may be used against civilian aviation." American personnel at the Tripoli embassy left the capital around dawn and traveled by road to Tunisia.

Another misfire in the Middle East. We jumped on and supported the "Arab Spring" uprisings too soon believing that countries like Iraq, Afghanistan, Egypt, Libya and Syria were ready for "democracy". We believed that all we had to do was to get rid of the dictators and all the people would be thankful for our intervention, and freedom would reign forever. We forgot that democracy must come from the people themselves, not from the intervention of a foreign power. We hate those dictators like Saddam Hussein, al Assad and Muammar Gaddafi but, as disgusting, murderous and tyrannical as they are, they at least kept stability in their countries and probably have cost fewer lives than the warring and unstable systems which replaced them. Maybe we have learned something if we can just continue to contain the war mongers in this country who just continually want us to keep intervening militarily in every conflict that arises.

(R) 2016 Gov. RICK PERRY Report: It is a shame to a VERY weak and RISKY democratic Socialism Obama-Hillary Clinton administration and leadership to lead a US State Department. Libya is still our BEST American (Republican's) interests. The 2016 RICK PERRY's White House will join Great Britain, France and Germany to shake up our Western security, diplomacy and normal trades with Libya before Russia and China put their hands to embrace Libya in Northern Africa.
