(Newser) – The love triangle: a classic dilemma, and Hollywood has seen its fair share of them. Biography.com rounds up five notable stories:

  • Elizabeth Taylor had already broken up one marriage (Eddie Fisher's) when she met Richard Burton. Seeing as Liz and Dick were both married to other people at the time, they were technically involved in a love quadrangle. They had an affair that even the pope condemned, eventually divorcing their spouses and getting married. They then divorced each other, got married again, and finally divorced one last time.
  • Prince Charles truly loved Camilla Parker-Bowles when he married Diana and made her a princess. Parker-Bowles was not considered a suitable wife for him, so she moved on to marry someone else. Charles and Camilla ended up having an affair, Charles and Diana eventually divorced, and after Diana's tragic death, Charles ultimately did marry Camilla. He also learned his lesson, and put up no fight when his own son married a "commoner."

  • Before she got together with Kurt Cobain, Courtney Love dated Smashing Pumpkins lead singer Billy Corgan. Rumor has it she actually intended to hook up with Corgan on the trip where she instead got together with Cobain—and conceived their daughter. Some even say she cheated on Cobain while they were married, with Corgan, and that Cobain found out just before killing himself.
