When the tourism board in Ithaca, NY, threw up its hands in despair and advised would-be tourists to the area to go instead to the Florida Keys, a funny thing happened: Everybody instead flocked to VisitIthaca.com, crashing it by yesterday afternoon, reports the AP. Bruce Stoff of the Ithaca-Tompkins County Convention and Visitors Bureau says that the site—which lamented the "ridiculously stupid" winter New York is experiencing, and declared "We give up" and "Really, it's for the birds here now"—attracted about 150,000 page views, forcing the bureau's servers to likewise declare "we surrender." Because the Internet can't have nice things, VisitIthaca has now returned to its normal fare. But Stoff adds that out of the deluge came a number of inquiries about visiting the area.
