Kidd Benched for Finale of Mavs' Loss

His replacement Harris shines against Bucks, Lakers sear Heat

(Newser) – Trailing the Spurs by two points with 35 seconds on the clock, the Mavericks benched assister Jason Kidd in favor of shotmaker Jerry Stackhouse, but to no avail. San Antonio went on to win 97-94 after two missed shots by Dirk Nowitzki and one blocked Jason Terry try, the Dallas Morning News reports. In other basketball action:

  • Stepping into Jason Kidd's old Nets shoes, Devin Harris had a much more successful night, grabbing 20 points and five assists in 20 minutes as New Jersey defeated Milwaukee 120-106.
  • The Lakers got their 10th straight victory off 24 points from Jordan Farmar and 21 from Kobe Bryant, crushing Miami 106-88.
