The US obesity rate rose to 27.7% last year, up from 27.1% the year prior—and in all but one state, at least one in five people are obese (in some states, more than a third of residents are obese). That one state is Hawaii, America's skinniest state for 2014, per a Gallup poll of 176,702 adults. The 10 skinniest states and their respective obesity rates:

  1. Hawaii, 19%
  2. Colorado, 20.3%
  3. Montana, 23.5%
  4. California, 23.9%

  1. Massachusetts, 24%

  3. South Dakota, 24.6%
  4. New York, 24.7%
  5. Minnesota, 24.8%
  6. Connecticut, 24.9%
