Appel, Stanford Cruise Against Cleveland State

(Newser) – Jayne Appel posted a career-best 33 points, 29 in the first half, as the Stanford Cardinal crushed first-timers Cleveland State last night, 85-47. Kaley Klein posted 16 points for 15th seeded Cleveland State, who won a mere eight games last year, the AP reports. Stanford will take on either UTEP or Western Kentucky on Monday. In other Women's Tournament news:

  • Oklahoma State handily defeated East Tennessee State 85-73 in their New Orleans regional first round contest. The Cowgirls' Andrea Riley posted 26 points and five rebounds en route to victory
  • Marist, in danger of losing for the first time in 23 games, trounced DePaul with a closing 32-2 run, turning narrow defeat into a 76-57 first round triumph.
