10 US Cities With Biggest Spikes in HIV
Baton Rouge tops the list

(Newser) – In 2014, it's estimated that more than 44,000 people contracted HIV, NBC News reports. In advance of World AIDS Day on Wednesday, GetTested looked at CDC data for that year to determine the 10 cities with the highest rates of new HIV diagnoses. The top five:

  1. Baton Rouge, La.: 44.7 new diagnoses per 100,000 people
  2. Miami, Fla.: 42.8 per 100,000
  3. New Orleans, La.: 36.9 per 100,000
  4. Jackson, Miss.: 32.2 per 100,000
  5. Orlando, Fla.: 28.8 per 100,000
