A very brave Tesla driver and a heroic cop make this year's list of inspiring stories:

  • Little Caesars Founder Quietly Paid the Rent of Rosa Parks: The death of Mike Ilitch, founder of Little Caesars, has brought back into the public eye a little-known story about his hometown philanthropy in Detroit: Back in 1994, he began covering the rent for civil rights icon Rosa Parks. The story starts with a robbery.
  • Google CEO Responds to Girl Who Wrote Looking for Job: A 7-year-old girl in England already has her foot in the door at Google after she wrote to the tech company asking for a job—and CEO Sundar Pichai responded. Chloe Bridgewater's letter began, "Dear Google boss." Pichai's response left her and her dad "gobsmacked."

  • Driver Deliberately Crashes Fancy Tesla to Save Lives: The driver of a $70,000 Tesla Model S was on the autobahn near Munich when he saw an out-of-control Volkswagen Passat swerve across the road and repeatedly hit a guardrail. The Tesla driver caught up with the Passat and realized the driver was near unconsciousness. The Tesla driver first called fire services, then did something officials would later say "showed incredible courage"—and likely saved lives.
  • Dog Falls Through Ice, Cop Jumps in After Him: When a dog became trapped after he chased a ball onto Vancouver's Lost Lagoon on Friday afternoon and plunged through thin ice, Constable Peter Colenutt pulled off his coat and shoes and plunged into the frigid lake in short sleeves. He's being hailed as a hero.
  • Awesome Pregnancy Post Goes Viral: Todd Krieg can't feel anything below his chest after he was paralyzed in a dirt bike accident in 2014, so he and fiancee Amanda Diesen figured they'd need help conceiving a child someday. Not so: The couple recently found themselves unexpectedly pregnant, and their somewhat irreverent pregnancy announcement quickly went viral after they posted it on social media this week. It's a must-see.
