NJ Governor Paid Ex $6M

Posted May 23, 07 10:33 AM CDT in Politics

(Newser) – Breaking up really is hard to do, especially if you're the governor of New Jersey and your ex is a state employees' union president. Jon Corzine and Carla Katz split up in 2004, and Katz got more out of their 2-year relationship than a threadbare couch and some mix tapes, the Times reports: a settlement worth more than $6 million.

Katz has attempted to maintain ties despite repeated snubs; when Corzine was in a serious car accident recently, his aides banned her from visiting him in the hospital. A state ethics panel last week cleared Corzine after an investigation into the conduct of union negotiations last year, and he says Katz "remains a good friend and respected labor voice."
