A new survey by WalletHub crunches economic data on more than 180 US cities to rank them in terms of neediness. More specifically, the ranking takes into account factors such as child poverty, hunger, and uninsured rates, then bestows an overall score (the lower the better). The 10 neediest cities:

  1. Detroit, 64.85
  2. Cleveland, 58.85
  3. Newark, NJ, 54.43
  4. Memphis, 54.19
  5. Jackson, Miss., 53.58
  6. Atlanta, 53.44
  7. Fresno, Calif., 52.84
  8. Los Angeles, 52.78
  9. St. Louis, 52.44
  10. Indianapolis, 52.32
